Team Expectations

Team Expectations

1. Athletes are expected to attend as often as possible, please make coaches aware if students have a conflicting activity.  Exceptions are always made for after school academic needs as well as school clubs.  Exemptions are not made for any non-WMS sport teams.

2. Transportation is always provided for our away meets.  We will travel as a team to all of our away meets.  We typically return to WMS around 6:30 for most of our away meets.  All of our home meets take place at Wayland High School.  For home meets, families are expected to bring athletes to the high school.

3. At practice athletes are to be a great teammate, promote a positive team culture, work hard, to enjoy competition, and to grow skills.

Practice Expectations

1. You can expect to practice everyday except Wednesday, weather permitting.   Parents will be notified by email (the athletic department generally makes this decision no later than 1:00), and students should listen to afternoon announcements for weather cancellations.

2. The warm up will begin from the basketball courts at 3:30 and practice will conclude by 4:45 at the latest.

3. Practice will occasionally take place at the high school. Athletes will be bussed from the middle school, and pick up will be at the high school. Families will be notified about High School practices at the beginning of the week so they can adjust their pick-up plans.

3. Attendance will be taken at the start (and occasionally at the end) of practice.

4. There are no practices on weekends, holidays or during April Vacation.

Meet Rules and Expectations

1. Athletes are to represent our team, school, and towns through respect and good sportsmanship

2. All athletes are expected to stay until the end of the meets and cheer on their teammates.   If you plan on attending away meets and would like to bring your child home, please email the coaches to inform us about your pick-up plan.  It is a town rule that families need to notify coaches 24 hours prior if they plan on bringing their child home following a sporting event.

3. Athletes may participate in one running event, one field event, and one relay

4.  Field events are capped at 6 participants per meet.  Selection will mainly be determined by performance and attendance, all interest athletes will be able to compete in the field event of their choice at least once.

5.  Order of events is - boys and girls mile, 100 meter, 800 meter, 400 meter, 200 meter, 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay.  Field events run concurrently throughout the meet.

6. 100, 200, 400, 4x100, and 4x400 are competed in lanes and heats.  The first heat is used to determine the score of the meet.  Participation in the first heat as and relay order will be determined by the coaches.  Athletes not competing in the first heat of the relays are free to form their own foursome on their own or with coaches assistance
